Georgetown was founded in 1848. The place was named after the man who donated this land to the town, George Washington Glasscock. The clear water and the abundance of timber and other goods attracted many settlers to the area. Georgetown was historically an agricultural community but the arrival of the railroad in 1878 had led to the further development of the town. Georgetown is famous for its Victorian architecture and has several commercial and residential Victorian buildings.
