50 Pesos Mexican Gold Coin AU/BU (Random Year)

The 50 Pesos Mexican Gold Coin is one of the most famous gold coins in the world and is a centerpiece of any gold collector’s portfolio. The coin celebrates Mexico’s independence from Spain. It is also known as the Centenario for celebrating the 100th anniversary of Mexican Independence. It is composed of 1.2057 troy ounces of .900 pure gold. This coin was first minted in 1921 and was minted until 1947. The coin was restruck occasionally in later years but bears the 1947 date.

The obverse features the Winged Victory, also known as the Angel of Independence, a statue that appears on the victory column in Mexico City. Victory holds a laurel wreath in her right hand and broken chains in her left. Behind her, Mexico’s famous volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl appear. The inscriptions on this side read “50 Pesos,” “37.5 Gr. Oro Puro,” “1821,” and the year of mintage. The reverse depicts a golden eagle perched on a pear cactus holding a snake in its beak and one talon. The image is inside a circular design, with the bottom half depicting an olive and oak wreath and the top half inscribing “Estados Unidos Mexicanos.”

Coin Features:

  • Made from .900 pure gold with a weight of 1.2057 troy oz
  • Struck by Casa de Moneda de Mexico (Mexican Mint)
