Struck at the Melbourne Mint (M mintmark), this historic gold coin was issued during the final years of Queen Victoria’s reign, featuring her iconic “Veiled Head” portrait. Each sovereign contains 0.2354 troy ounces of gold (AGW) and is offered here in average circulated condition, showing honest wear from over a century of history.

The Veiled Head (also known as the “Old Head”) portrait of Queen Victoria was introduced in 1893, designed by Sir Thomas Brock. This mature effigy replaced earlier youthful portraits and reflected Victoria’s status as Empress of India and long-reigning monarch. The Melbourne Mint, one of Australia’s key branch mints, produced sovereigns that circulated throughout the British Empire and beyond, playing a major role in international trade.
