Silver Peace Dollars VG-XF (Random Year, 1921-1935)

Introduction:

The Silver Peace Dollars were first minted to honor the peace following World War I. The general idea was to create “a victory coin that would never become rare!” The historic value of this stunning silver coin and unique profile design of Lady Liberty make it a popular addition to numismatic portfolios.

U.S. Mint was producing these silver peace dollars from 1921-1928 and then for another 2 years from 1934-1935 years as US currency.

Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the coin was a result of a competition to find the most preferable art-work for the symbol of peace. Interestingly enough, De Francisci was the youngest of the competitors and the least experienced in coin designing. It’s believed, that the artist’s design was based on the features of his wife. He mentioned once, that when she was five years old, her family moved to America, when they were passing the Statue of Liberty, she was so impressed by the statue and had the exact pose as pictured.
