Silver American Eagle Coins

American Eagle coins are among the world’s most popular silver bullion coins and gold bullion coins. A rich American heritage of iconic designs and high-quality minting is struck into every silver coin in this iconic series. First minted in 1986, these coins have been a favorite ever since. The American Eagle coin series is legal tender backed by the U.S. Government. Bullion versions of the 2020 gold American eagles and silver American eagles come from West Point, N.Y. while proof versions are minted in San Francisco. Both are IRA eligible.

Individual coins come in protective plastic packaging. Multiples of 20 come in mint tubes. Lastly, multiples of 50 come in monster boxes.

Bullion Silver American Eagle

The .999 silver eagle is one of the most popular bullion coins in our catalog. Its history begins in the mid-70s, when the US Government began enacting plans to sell a portion of the national treasury’s silver. This came to fruition in 1986, when the Liberty Coin Act authorized the silver American Eagle coin series for mintage. Ever since, its gorgeous, patriotic design and 1 oz of .999 silver content have made it a staple for both collectors and investors alike.

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s original “Walking Liberty” design. This first appeared on The Walking Liberty Half Dollar, which ran from 1916-1947. It portrays Lady Liberty striding towards the rising sun as the American flag drapes over her shoulders. Her right arm is outstretched, and she carries oak and olive branches in her left arm. The rim reads “LIBERTY”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, and “2019”.

The reverse features John Mercanti’s update of the heraldic American eagle crest seen in the US National coat of arms. Here, the eagle poses with its wings outstretched. It carries an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other. It also bears a shield decorated with the American flag on its chest. Additionally, it holds a banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak. Inscriptions for “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER”, and “ONE DOLLAR” encircle the rim. 13 stars representing the original 13 colonies form a triangle over the eagle’s head.

Proof Silver American Eagle Coins

Proof Silver American Eagles have been minted since the American Silver Eagle series began in 1986. From 1986 to 1992, they were minted at the San Francisco mint, and bore the “S” mintmark. From 1993 to 2000, their mintage moved to the Philadelphia mint, where they were given a “P” mintmark. West Point took over proof minting duties from 2001 to 2015, and its coins carry the “W” mintmark. All three mints have since shared production for proofs.
