History of UFOs
During WWII, numerous technological breakthroughs occurred, many of which involved flying aircrafts. With the world’s attention turned towards the skies, reports of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) began to circulate throughout the country. One of the first notable UFO sightings happened in 1947. In June of that year, Pilot Kenneth Arnold witnessed mysterious flying objects near Mount Rainier. Consequently, he was quoted saying they looked like “saucers skipping on water”, which popularized the term “flying saucers”. This term was widely used for these mystifying phenomenons until 1953. During that year, the United States Airforce officially coined the phrase “Unidentified Flying Object (UFO). The 1947 sighting prompted the beginning of Project Blue Book, the large-scale governmental investigation of UFO’s, terminated in 1969 after 19 years of research. Because of this, PAMP Suisse commemorates the 50th anniversary of the project’s ending with an identifiably cool UFO coin.
The obverse of the coin displays the extremely identifiable effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. She is surrounded by the inscriptions “SOLOMON ISLANDS”, “ELIZABETH II”, the year and the denomination. Additionally, the weight and purity appear on the left side of the saucer coin. A unique serial number is inscribed on the right.
The reverse features a fun UFO design with a special reverse-proof holographic finish. This lustrous depiction will bring a sense of wonder into any precious metals portfolio.
