The exceptional 2016 S&W Silver Proof American Liberty Medals showcase a fresh, contemporary design of Liberty. These incorporate the ideals of hope and courage. At the same time, the US Mint uses it’s latest manufacturing and digital technology to produce this remarkable bullion product. This fantastic silver proof medal is the symbol of the American proud numismatic heritage. As well as the Nation’s glimmering future. This is because it replicates the praised obverse and reverse design of the $100 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin.
The heads design of the medal was a creation of Justin Kunz. Justin is the talented US Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer. It showcases a new representation of Liberty as a modern woman. She is wearing a crown of olive leaves– trustfully holding in her hands the American flag and a lighted torch. This powerful image was a sculpture by the remarkable Phebe Hemphill. Phebe delicately engraved her and designer’s initials on the obverse side. You will also see the inscriptions “Liberty” and “2016.”
On the reverse side of the medal depicts the majestic representation of the beloved American Eagle. This was a creation by another talented AIP designer – Paul C. Balan. The image is a sculpture by Don Everhart II, the US Mint Sculptor-Engraver. It features a gorgeous eagle gripping an olive branch in its talons while rising in flight. The eagle is the “embodiment of freedom.” “DE” and “PCB” initials surround the eagle, the “S” or “W” mintmark, and “United States of America.”
US Mint and the Medal
The US Mint strikes the beautiful silver proof medals at the West Point and San Francisco facilities by using the American Silver Eagle blanks. They are available in 1 oz. of .999 fine silver. Unlike the Liberty gold coin issued in 2015, the 40.6 mm silver proof Liberty medal is not legal tender. It doesn’t carry a denomination. The US Mint set a mintage limit of 12,500 medals. Additionally, there is a household limit of just two medals per household.
These medals ship in encapsulation. They are also carefully placed in a delicate blue velvet display mint box. Finally, it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The Silver Proof American Liberty Medal is a treasured addition for passionate investors and collectors all over the world.
