Since the American Eagle Program began in 1986, the American Eagle coins have become the first official bullion coin series of the modern age and continue to be highly sought after around the globe. The first American Eagles minted were gold and silver, and the Gold Eagles are currently produced in denominations of 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz. The Silver Eagles, however, are only offered in 1 oz. Finally, in 1997, the Platinum American Eagle was first minted with multiple fractional editions. The obverse bears the face of the Statue of Liberty as she appears in reality. Her crown crosses over the inscription “LIBERTY” with the year of mintage, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, and “IN GOD WE TRUST”.

The reverse design will not be changed this year, unlike the 2021 Gold and Silver Eagle editions. This Platinum Eagle’s reverse continues to display the American Eagle in flight, illuminated by the sun’s rays.
