1929 50 Peso Mexican Gold Coin

History – The 50 Peso Mexican Gold Coin was first minted in 1921 at one of the oldest North American mints, the Mexico City Mint, to commemorate 100 years of Mexican Independence from Spanish rule. This Mexican Gold Coin was minted by the Mexico City Mint from 1921-1931, 1944-1947, and 1949-1972. The coin is also known as "The Centenario."

Coin Features:

  • The coin is .900 fine gold and contains 1.2057 troy ounces of gold.
  • Issued by Banco de México from 1921-1947.
  • The 50 Peso Mexican Gold Coin is one of the most beautiful gold coins to own. On the obverse, the coin displays an image of the Winged Victory on a background of Mexico’s two very popular volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The Winged Victory or the Angel of Independence is holding a laurel wreath of victory in one hand and on the other is holding broken chains to depict victory against and freedom from Spain. On the lower part, the coin is etched with two dates - 1821, which is the year of Mexican Independence, and 1929, which is the year of mintage. On either side of the angel are the denomination (50 Pesos) and the weight (37.5 g).
  • On the reverse, the coin has the image of National Coats of Arms of Mexico, where a Golden eagle perching on a cactus while holding a serpent in its beak and talons.
  • A 100% authentic product, the coin is in AU/BU condition.
  • The item comes in a neat presentable pack which is also safe for delivery.

Other Coin Features:

  • When it comes to gold purity, the 50 Peso Mexican Gold Coin stands equivalent to the pre-1933 U.S. Gold coins like Saint Gaudens or Gold Liberty Head, at 90% pure.
  • The Centenario is made from 90% gold and 10% copper alloy, making for a very durable coin. Some consider the Mexican 50 Peso coin to have a better finish compared to American Gold Eagles, which can exhibit a lesser quality finish due to their silver alloy.
  • The Mexican 50 Pesos gold coin is 20% larger than a 1 oz American Gold Eagle.
